چکیده

It is well recognized that feed represents the most significant cost of broiler production. Most production costs estimates range from 60-70% as being feed costs. Certainly, the major portion of feed costs is for the ingredients used. However, the cost of feed processing represents a significant portion of feed costs and likely gives the greatest opportunity for influencing broiler performance beyond nutritional adequacy. “Feed processing” and the costs associated with processing include a wide range of unit operations including receiving, grinding, proportioning, mixing, pelleting, loadout, and delivery. Nearly every one of these operations can have either a negative or positive influence on subsequent animal performance and can certainly influence the profitability of a poultry production company. The rate of gain for broilers has increased substantially during the last few decades. In 1960, a commercial broiler chicken attained a 2.2 Kg market weight by 12 weeks of age. Today’s broilers attain the same market weight in just 6 weeks (Havenstein et al., 1994). A similar trend has been noted for turkeys (Ferket, 2001). This remarkable improvement can be mainly attributed to improved genetics, however, tremendous improvements in nutrition have made it possible to take advantage of the genetic changes. Furthermore, our understanding of feed processing and feed delivery has allowed the economical implementation of many of the innovations in nutrition.

Effect of Peppermint and Basil as Feed Additive on Broiler Performance and Carcass Characteristics

This research was conducted to find out the effect of peppermint and basil as natural feed additives on broiler performance. The objective of the present study was to investigate the impact of the peppermint (Mentha pipreitae) and basil (Ocimum basilicum) as a feed additive on live body weight (LBW), body weight gain (BWG), feed intake (FI), feed conversion ratio (FCR), carcass weight, abdomina...

Effect of Rolled or Extruded Flaxseeds in Finisher Diet on Pellet Quality, Performance, and n-3 Fatty Acids in Breast and Thigh Muscles of Broiler Chickens

An experiment was conducted to compare the effect of corn-soybean meal finisher (29-42d) diets containing flaxseeds (rolled or extruded) on pellet quality, performance, n-3 fatty acids (FA) and oxidative stability of meat in broiler chickens. Seven pelleted diets were provided in a 3×2 factorial arrangement with three flaxseed levels (5, 10, and 15%) and two processing methods (rolled or extrud...

Effects of Different Levels of Raw and Processed Oak Acorn (Quercus castaneifolia) on Performance, Small Intestine Morphology, Ileal Digestibility of Nutrients, Carcass Characteristics and Some Blood Parameters in Broiler Chickens

This study was conducted to determine the effect of oak acorn (Quercus castaneifolia) on performance, small intestine morphology, ileal digestibility of nutrient, carcass and some blood parameters in broiler chicks. A total of fifty hundred four one-d old male chickens (Ross308 strain) with seven treatments and four replicates in each treatment were used. Experimental diets were: control (corn-...

The Effect of Different Levels of Rapeseed Meal with and without Enzyme on the Performance and the Serum Level of Triiodothyronine (T3), Thyroxine (T4) and Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) in Broiler Chickens

In order to investigate the effect of different levels of rapeseed meal on performance and content of triiodothyronine (T3), thyroxine (T4) and thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) in broiler chickens’ blood, 640 1-d-old Ross male broiler chickens were studied through a 4 × 2 factorial arrangement including 4 levels of rapeseed meal (RSM) (0, 5, 10 and 15 percent) and two levels of enzyme (0 and 0...
